The Alaskan 520 challenges the popular concept of Trawler yachts. She is designed from the ground up as a perfectly balanced long distance passage maker with exceptional seaworthiness and sea keeping ability as a priority. She balances speed and economy to fall exactly into the area this type of cat can uniquely deliver. The “Trawler” catchword is used on any and every type of vessel trying to project to the buyer a trawler's solid heavy duty ability to handle the sea because of its working heritage. Usually they are heavy, slow and purpose designed with huge motors to pull trawl loads, they are not the boat to cruise in. This is like traveling in a semi trailer instead of a motor home. In this way, we have designed the Alaskan to have every quality you need for serious long distance live aboard cruising. We use the most modern and lightweight materials, sophisticated engineering and reliable new advances in technology and equipment to produce this perfectly balanced Power Cat. She uses our well-proven semidisplacement hull shape. Being a better load carrier than her Prowler sisters allows higher payloads and she has a wider hull at waterline to give more internal space. |
MOTORS She's designed to have a top speed of 21-24 knots and comfortably cruise at 15-17 knots with exceptional economy. At these cruising speeds, she has a range of 1500 miles. At her cruising speeds, we are estimating her fuel consumption to be around 2.5Lt per nautical mile (both motors!) Motor choice is 2 x 250hp diesels, the choice can be personalized to suit the owners application but with the reliability of the modern intercooled turbo diesels, their use can save significant weight increasing efficiency and economy. Our choice is for a slightly bigger motor running easy than a small motor running hard. |

OUTSIDE Her styling is modern with a low drag co-efficient and yet she's rugged with secure well protected deck use. She has covered deck wings to give crew a protected position to keep watch from when negotiating those poorly chartered wilderness anchorages or crowded waterways. The sunken forward decks offer a safe working environment in rough conditions, this is enhanced by gunwhales and guardrails. Moving aft, you walk through the protected wings stepping down into a very spacious cockpit. Access from the deck or tender is at bridge deck level so there are no awkward decks to climb over. Washboards or high strength doors close this access for ocean conditions. Bridge deck clearance is very high being 975 mm, this gives the clearance this type of cat needs and means there will be no nerve wrecking slamming or damage concerns here. |
INTERIOR Inside, she is all cruiser. Designed to carry her owners anywhere in comfort, she has an airy open layout allowing good interaction between the galley, saloon dining area and helm station. Headroom throughout is a shade under 2 metres. Below in the port hull, you have the privacy and luxury of the main owners staterooms with it's adjoining en-suite area. This entire hull is dedicated to the owners privacy and comfort. Guests are catered for in the starboard hull in private 2 cabins each with their own head and shower. All cabins are fully separated and insulated from the engine rooms aft. Engine room access is via big hatches in the cockpit area allowing easy access for maintenance or removal. |
FLYBRIDGE The fly bridge is access from the spiral stairs in the cockpit, this area has full headroom with a 2nd helm station. This really is a luxury penthouse lounge with a view that includes its own private sun deck aft. An intimate bar and coffee maker up here could take the legwork out of those long ocean watches. This area can be fully sealed or use zip in clears depending on the climate one chooses to cruise in or suit the seasons as you travel through them. |
The Alaskan recipe offers an exceptional sea boat with stunning looks and impeccable manners. She cruises faster than most other passage makers using half the fuel, offers shallow draft for exploring and solid safety. She's a 'no roll' ocean crosser that can be beached anywhere on a strong straight hull bottom with full prop and rudder protection. Sounds too good to be true but definitely not, this is the future, it's your choice now. |
